Does this make sense? An outdoorsman and a computer guy? I thought all outdoorsmen are burly dudes with beards, baseball caps, and various fishy odors. And computer guys are geeks that want to be left alone to hide in the basement surrounded by a variety of computer parts, screens and online friends.
On the fishing side, I blame it all on my dad. Fishing has been a part of my life for as long as I can recall. In the early days it was trolling Creekchub Pikies and Lazy Ikes out of my Dad's old wood boat on Lake Winnebago. In the mid '70s my parents moved us to Woodruff WI on a small lake that had muskies in it. From there the addiction grew (My wife might call it an obsession). Thanks Dad.
As for the computer side. In the '80's I attended UW-Stevens Point. After two and a half years as an undeclared major, a woman named Margaret Stern (who I assume was randomly assigned to me as my advisor) suggested I give a programming class a try. In 1989 I recieved a Bachelors degree from UWSP in Computer Information Systems. Over the next ten years, I worked as a programer and software architect for several different companies. In 1997 a business partner and I started an eCommerce software company. Frankly, I don't think we knew what we were getting into, but in the period of just over four years, we had built a very successful company. We eventually sold that company, afterwich I eventually joined a regional IT Consulting company in the Midwest called Omni Resources, where today I head up the custom software development division.
So... here I am, nearly 20 years out of college, and I'm writing software for the fishing industry. Huh. Who Knew? (ok, everybody).
